Adelaide largest home builder, Hickinbotham Homes is reimagining their new selection centre in collaboration with interior design firms Designthink, Enoki and the design team at Hickinbotham Construction Services. Together, we are creating a state of the art selection centre where thousands of samples come together to offer Hickinbotham clients a new and exciting selection centre creating thousands of future homes in South Australia.

BRIEF

To relocate the Caveo Partners firm into Halifax Street and bring sophisticated and modern feel to a thriving financial office.

SPACE

2 office buildings in dire need of TLC were completely transformed to breathe new life into previously unused spaces. Value adding was provided through the pairing back of some materials to reveal and celebrate character stonework and roof structures. Working with Integra Projects this sophisticated redevelopment created functional yet timelessly styled commercial spaces for Caveo Partners

MSN Channel Nine Adelaide Headquarters relocation from North Adelaide to its new City Home in Hindmarsh square including its extensive IT and television production services ready for a new era in television production.


SPACE
After the highly anticipated move for MSN Nine Sydney Designthink as a key partner in Capsule Projects were successful as the winning design team to make the move a modern reality. This exciting venture began with preparing a detailed return brief for Sydney Channel Nine HQ that included elements such as relationship diagrams and component lists for client sign off. The redesign then began involving the  expansion into 3 levels of corporate office, studios including the main News Studio, technical services including editing booths and sound booths with extensive IT infrastructure requirements both internally and externally.

STELLAS RESTAURANT

HENLEY BEACH SA

BRIEF
Putting the beach back into Stella's restaurant & bar:
The brief was simple, bring the beach and great Italian dining back to an iconic Henley location, Stella's. 
Designthink undertook the re-imagining of this iconic seaside jaunt by drawing inspiration from Italy's famous Amalfi coast and Adelaide’s enviable coastal landscape. The existing 20 year old eatery was infused with a range of textures and a bright citrus feel paying homage to Amalfitana influences while retaining local character.  


SPACE
Through a strong rebranding along with a redefinition of spaces and services, Stella’s new outlook provides patrons with many options. The restaurant begins its total redesign with the introduction of a rock wall, warming fireplace and a peek a view cutout into the kitchen. The view has been opened to the sea and lightening of the space to reflect a light filled beach side eatery re-emerging from its subtle past.

The Brief called for a contemporary, classic designed home situated on a complex site and responding to multiple council conditions, all with a budget in mind! Completed to the highest quality of detail, this new boutique build includes 4-bedroom home with the latest technologies is a rate opportunity in a prestigious area.

SPACE

The complexity of building on a triangle is no mean feat yet this home maximized the limited space of 525m to achieve a luxurious 3 bedrooms 2 living areas bathroom and ensuite, open living with pantry / butler’s pantry with great views into multiple courtyard spaces.

Classic, yet luxe style finishes with a modern twist including black ceramic finishes and details

Victorian cove cornice and timber panel wall and detail throughout

BRIEF

Bringing the Flying Fig back to North Adelaide with a New York twist
The brief for this Adelaide hot spot was to re-develop existing restaurant fit-out into one of Adelaide's first American / Jewish style deli offerings all with a distinctly North Adelaide feel. Designthink first began by uncovering the character of the heritage building while opening up the kitchen and redesigning the internal spaces to introduce a New York Sandwich Deli atmosphere that celebrates the freshness of its local products. 

SPACE
The heritage building facade incorporated updated signage and awning structures, while injecting an open kitchen and counter top offering for a more casual offering for patrons. Eclectic black pendant light fittings and black bench tops and trim with subway tiles sets the scene for a New York experience in North Adelaide.

This multi residential apartment project required the development of planning layouts, a contemporary interior aesthetic and joinery for an eastern suburb’s local. A marketing package was also provided to assist in the sales of these apartments.

WINED BAR & CELLAR DOOR - NATIONAL WINE CENTRE

Honor Adelaide’s wineries by reinvigorating the existing Wined Bar & Food from a cafe to re-establish it as a bar and cellar door.  
 

SPACE
Reusing the existing fabric of the iconic building that is the Wine Centre, Designthink set out to re-imagine the space by incorporating a darker aesthetic reflecting the feel of a wine cellar. A120 wine bottle dispensary machine was included as a feature and the incorporation of plywood paneled walls, concrete floors and an 8000 wine bottle adorned ceiling, the striking re modernization now provides a clear focal point for wine lovers visiting this renowned Adelaide site.

Designthink was engaged to provide a comprehensive re-imaging of this head office selling a world leading technology in hearing. They took an existing brand and added a level of sophistication creating a striking ambience to reflect this innovative and highly sophisticated piece of technology in the medical space. 
Servicing Audiologist / Cochlear Implants specialists this headquarters serves not only as a base for the company, but a dispatch point for this medical product in Australia. 
 

SPACE
Industrial office space in which we injected warmth and modern furniture, whilst providing a clear focus on a world class product through use of display, brand and the clever use of materials and lighting to create a open plan functional space.

COTTO CAFE & PANINERIA

BRIEF
New Directions for Cotto: 
Set with a  new brief, Designthink was asked to take the franchise model of Cotto cafes and shift the direction  towards a more personalised boutique cafe reflecting the authenticity and freshness of an italian paninoteca. . 
 

SPACE
To do this at its first location, Design think pulled back the fabric of the base building exposing brickwork and heritage beams while exposing a beautiful heritage staircase where they even managed to impress the  heritage consultants! Details were finalised  by  injecting a some industrial elements in the form of overhead shelving and display while retaining the essence of the Cotto's previous fitouts
This exposed, industrial style setting set the backdrop for the new ' paninoteca'  direction allowing the  introduction new recipes to be on open display in a more pared back and visually impressive way. The notion of a feast for the senses was captured successfully through each element of the interiors.

GOODWOOD RESIDENCE

To redevelop and be true to the fabric of the existing church structure while integrating key creative elements to reflect its use as a residence and interior design office for Designthink. Ultimately, creating a unique home office that reflected who we were and how we lived - a modern approach to life and work.
 

SPACE
Adding a second level and mezzanine space to original A Frame structure, this level needed to incorporate a second luxurious bathroom, master bedroom and parent’s retreat. On ground level, to separate main space into an office and open plan residential living space incorporating two large bedrooms, laundry, cellar and main bathroom. 
 

DESIGN FEATURES
Extensive use of natural materials including
Finely Polished Brighton light Concrete topping throughout
Custom terrazzo basins and baths
Large format Italian white travertine tiled walls and concrete freestanding baths to create areas reminiscent of luxurious hotels. 
Faceted, exposed ceilings highlighting angles and shapes throughout the space creating beautiful forms while being seamless in its execution
Large format blue stone steppers outside
Opening up the spaces with glass has created seamless from inside to out
All internal areas look onto outdoor space
Upstairs area includes warm oak floors, luxurious ensuite and a private ‘parent retreat’ with large master bedroom overlooking ground floor. 
Other design features custom lighting, sliding panels, pivoting doors, custom door handles, timber paneled walls, Elba Italian marble bench tops throughout kitchen and laundry

BRIEF

Working in collaboration with Detail Studio this school’s new addition to its’ junior primary areas required a full interior design component as part of the master plan.

SPACE

Every child wants to draw on the walls! Designthink & Details Studio developed a system of using the walls for each space incorporating interactive boards, drawing panels and display hanging systems. Informed by the strong circular aspect of the plan, Designthink ensured a seamless link in the realization of the interior architecture to complement the sculptural, whimsical exterior architecture Details Studio created.

MCMAHON SERVICES HEAD OFFICE

Renovation & Upgrades for leading South Australian enterprise’s Head Office and Executive areas.  

SPACE
Designthink sought to innovate the space for this highly regarded SA business by infusing McMahons Demolition & Recycling graphic branding and making it the centerpiece for what came next. The creative flow began with the design and installment of a sculptural pattern in the form of oak sticks throughout the spaces and the creation of a pattern in fine timber cuts to connect all areas. Using this same patterning across the various acoustic panels has allowed for the various spaces to be used in a variety of scenarios.

WOODVILLE PRIMARY SCHOOL

MULTI-PURPOSE LEARNING-STEM WORKS REDEVELOPMENT

BRIEF

Conversion of staff rooms and multiple small spaces into contemporary, open flexible learning spaces for STEM use including a film making room and collaboration spaces.

Including, Multi-purpose Learning, collaborative, think tank and creative areas, a darkroom staff prep area and a new outdoor learning covered area

Working closely with Leadership, educators and students at Woodville Primary school and with Giordano & associates to deliver the STEM works redevelopment project to provide a 21st century learning spaces.

SPACE

Opening the space to the outside for alternative external and extra space and linking the main spaces for a larger or collaborative student space

Introduced a play on the “W” throughout the space including in carpet overlay and the acoustic panels This will serve to give the school a sense of location serves well as a back drop for future branding opportunities

We decided to move to more modern secondary school colours of blue and yellow moving away from the tired green and gold.

The project was so successful were now looking at extending the works brief into the front of house reception areas to really give the school face an uplift.

Provided with building plates in the ‘raw’, Designthink were appointed to insert and create suites of various sizes for individual sale or rental purposes. 
The brief was to create modern yet industrial spaces with a building in ‘raw’ state plate to entice a variety of business uses.

Cotto Espresso  
Cotto Espresso are  a new  'multiple location' espresso cafe bar in the competitive cafe landscape, Designthink worked successfully  with client, various councils , landlords and the trades, to develop and guide construction of 3 exciting Cafes around the high streets of suburban Adelaide. 
Multiple café locations; Hyde Park, Prospect, Glenelg, and Woodville incorporating the Cotto's Commercial Kitchen.
Introducing an exciting new player on the café scene required a seamless and integrated approach from Designthink who are well known for their highly regarded work both in the food industry and the franchise space.


SPACE
A bright, inviting and seamless space was needed for this larger venture while reflecting the high quality, Italian food it served. Strong timbers and an highly graphic tiles sets the mood for a rustic Italian  experience.

RAH existing Royal Adelaide Hospital site was a fun project asking for ideas to shape this landmark site. Designthink in collaboration with some good friends in the design industry Enoki & Giordano & Associates collaborated to create an entry which encapsulated various ideas returning the site back to the public for a variety of uses.
This collaboration worked so well it shaped the beginnings of Capsule Projects, a collaborative team of experts working on mid to large size projects.

National engineering company Leighton Contractors sought to expand their presence in Adelaide moving into a newly built location on Adelaide’s premier business strip of Greenhill Road.
In collaboration with Giordano Architects, Designthink led the creation of modern offices encompassing 2 levels of 1000 square meters of high end office spaces.


SPACE
Designthink was able to deliver stunningly modern work spaces from the front of house executive areas right through to the open plan work spaces.

Fine Wine merchants Samuel Smith & Sons recently opened its 926 square metre headquarters in Sydney. Designthink were charged with the responsibility of creating a modern and warm, inviting interior that reflected their historic, family owned company.
 

SPACE
The completed interiors drew inspiration from the group’s historic industrial warehouses near Angaston in the Barossa Valley and now provide this iconic Australian company a stunning basis for its distribution arm.

The Brief here was to create a unique residential space by engaging the existing shape and special elements of the existing church to create functional, inspiring spaces that are in synergy with our family and working life.


SPACE
The introduction of a steel cube to a frame building whilst keeping the original ‘A Frame’ church to introduce a mezzanine level.


DESIGN FEATURES
Engaging in modern construction methods and new materials that pushed the capabilities of standard practices in highly detailed ways, all the while incorporating sustainable and highly efficient practices recognising our need to minimise impact on the environment.

BRIEF
The Blefari family sought the services of Designthink to realise their dream of offering good food and catering in the foyer of one of Adelaide’s landmark architectural  buildings, the Reserve Bank in the heart of the CBD. A standout cafe which attracts the hustle and bustle crowd right in the heart Adelaide.


SPACE
This new eatery features a striking canary yellow color and a ‘black box’ kitchen which acts as the engine room of an open, heavily stocked display and café bar.

Concept redevelopment for a development company in the Alexandria Area to reimagine existing warehouse spaces into anything with an open brief to upgrade this existing structure. We researched the area and developed the envelope into a multilevel of office, hospitality bars and flexible retail. Including roof decks and outdoor areas with cutout views across Sydney’s skyline.

SPACE

Extensive space planning with the reuse of the existing structure with the creation of some 8300m2 of space and a lettable area of 6200m2 + 80 Carparks

Commercial office / office suites courtyards, retail hospitality, lobby and breakout, terraces and courtyards, possible temporary market spaces and carparks

Designthink was charged with the conversion of a warehouse space to series of commercial offices for the company’s fine wine and liquor international distribution arm.

The new warehouse and office incorporated 5 offices and a boardroom along with a cafe area, reception area and Fine Wine cool-room.

BRIEF
High End fashion house employed Designthink in collaboration with Enoki to design and manage their new landmark fit-out on The Parade, Norwood, SA

SPACE
Open retail space for the high end garments. This fit out included a new shop front including 2 large copper doors, sales counter, café and sales hanging benches which could double as a Runway for fashion parades

DESIGN FEATURES
Long marble counter designed to be mobile flexible including point of sale, product hanging, folded display central congregation point to the fit out, this counter also doubles as a stage and future cafe bench
Custom made steel racking for hanging garments enables the dresses to float within the space
Flexible feature in floor lighting and light box shoe display under product displays to complete this retail story
Pivot door change rooms with veneer panels, feature lighting, full length mirrors and plush ottomans create a hotel like experience for customers
Large mirrors throughout the space reflect the fit out , product and are both practical while creating a sense of a larger space
New shop front with highly detailed frameless glass flat bar steel and large copper clad doors frame this shop front portal raising anticipation of what to expect inside

Iconic South Australian Travel and Cruise specialists Phil Hoffman Travel sought to establish their head office in the newly built Bayside Village as a major draw-card of the centre. Working with both the developer and Phil Hoffman Travel, Designthink worked successfully in executing the design of a mixed use space incorporating retail, administration and call centre.


SPACE
With an innovative client brief, Designthink incorporated key elements such as Chef’s kitchen for cooking demonstrations and spaces for language classes along with Internet Café and Travelex Booth for clients.

This upgrade of an existing and bustling, up market Argentinean Restaurant in Adelaide`s iconic Rundle Street incorporates a main dining room and second level function area. Both areas have been darkened in coloring to create the earthiness and mystique of an Argentinean restaurant.

The restaurant spans over 2 levels in a busy eating strip seating over 100 customers.

Mooi was designed as a kiosk style café within Mitcham Square Shopping Centre offering from fine Illy coffee and cakes to café style foods and branded coffee products.

SPACE
The fit-out incorporates a variety of modern lines and contemporary furniture. The huge red bench incorporates all equipment, seating, illuminated recesses for additional branded cups and coffee which form part of the retail offering.

To develop existing wholesale product for the retail market incorporating retail displays and cooking class area to become a food space with a difference.
Mario + Immas il Mercato is a large retail mini-market offering gourmet foods, kitchen and wine equipment, liquor sales and on site bakery. Here we worked extensively on the building internally and externally in-order to create an impressive market experience and brand working alongside Graphics firm, The Big Roar.


SPACE
Il Mercato was developed as a up market food offering while not turning any customer away a balance with the interior was needed to convey this to customers therefore the basis of the design was to show all stock by removing previously designed ceilings, and perceptions of it being just another supermarket
Painting out the exposed structure and opening up the space makes the fit out look larger than life allowing for the introduction of surplus stock, good visuals throughout the store and large graphics and signage for area identification.


DESIGN FEATURES
Screed colored concrete flooring throughout the space
use of natural materials, and true materials including plywood, marmoliuem bench tops, stainless steel, glass tiles, timber combined with earthy tones and finishes
galvanized industrial shelving units in various configurations and applications
exposed ceilings and infrastructure for a real raw finish
clever use of standard materials and off the shelf structures to create a market atmosphere in a new build

BRIEF
To develop a retail store for children`s product incorporating a vision for which enhances the brand while creating something that can be used in a franchise model. Happy house is an international product brand who used Designthink to design and develop a seamless retail and branding experience for consumers. The concept was refined and over-laid onto other roll-out stores.


SPACE
The shaping of the space was derived from the curved and 'funky' logo featuring, cleverly curved counters all to create an 'imagination' inspired experience.

BRIEF
This beauty parlor demanded a high end fit-out for its highly visible Westfield location. A "Westfield Award Winning" Design.


SPACE
Located in a corner position, the salon incorporated a large shopfront, clad in copper tones with shaped cutouts so passing traffic could get a glimpse of the workings inside. The interior exudes glamour with its clever use of opulent curtains, a dark color palette and striking lighting instrumental in making the space one of desire and sophisticated branding for a small South Australian retailer.

Chop Chop noodle bar was one of the first fit-outs within the redeveloped Elizabeth City Shopping Centre, a food retail fit-out offering Asian food combinations, with a combination of eat in dining and take away services

Divided into two areas, the cooking which is on display to the public creating open market type asian cooking theatre and the restaurant style dining experience The design lends itself to franchise opportunities and has had longevity within the centre.

While completing an entire new interior concept for bustling foodie destination "Il Mercato", the owners recognised that the building also required a revisit.  Naturally it was a logical step for Designthink to work on the exterior.  Beginning with an upgrade to the façade and entry, the remaining design  incorporates a modern, simple approach to the façade allowing the store to become a focal point for all that pass by. 

SPACE
Simple canopies and structure with a modern colour as a finish opening up the retail space behind the glazing. Introduction of greenery growth in built in planters for spilling the retail space to the outside for human interaction / dining and special events.

Gametraders is a franchise of new and pre-used games and accessories. Owners recognised the need to create a consistent, coherent brand to become market leaders. This new concept store was used by new and existing franchisees and is currently being rolled out around Australia.
 

SPACE
Simple ideas and modern shaping to the interior architecture and palette for the branding overlay which was collaborated on with Nick Nack Creative. The fit out elements were designed and built in SA for over lay onto various sites around Australia. The design works seamlessly with shopping centre guidelines.
 

DESIGN FEATURES
Easy walk ways in the shop with segregated areas for the specific brands and game types

PUNK ROSE FASHION - FRANCHISE
NATIONAL ROLL OUT AUSTRALIA

BRIEF
Punk Rose was developed as a youth female fashion store in NSW. The brand direction was to develop a polished, edgy, warehouse feel. Designthink simplified the logo and used a wallpaper designer to develop a custom wallpaper reflecting a “punk rose”.
 

SPACE
The fit-out incorporates various levels of lighting to lead customers through the store. With a focal point in the back of the store in the form of a sales counter and change room area
The full height shop front opens up the mall space and wraps back into the retail space with a paneled ceiling which doubles as a structure to support the various lighting types.
Thick individual letter signage and illuminated pink display boxes within the frame-less glass window pods and the branding “Punk Rose” wall paper provides a clean shopfront for merchandise display.
